Norfolk is most known for it's harbor and and spectacular waterfront views and location. With a population of appox. 230,000, it's the second largest incorporated city. The city is bordered to the west by the Elizabeth River and to the north by the Chesapeake Bay. It also shares borders with the cities of Chesapeake to its south and Virginia Beach to its east. One of the oldest of the Hampton Roads cities, Norfolk is considered to be the historic, urban, financial, and cultural center of the region.
Norfolk has been experiencing one of the largest renovation and redevelopment projects it has ever seen over the last decade, completely transforming the downtown and residential districts, which is attracting many new buyers to the area because of it's central location to all the other cities in Hampton Roads. Norfolk contributes as a major cultural, educational, business, and medical center, providing numerous employment opportunities to the population in Hampton Roads and is helping transform Hampton Roads as one of the largest developed regions in the country. Because of its centrality, traveling to and from work is easy with the accessible interstate system, international airport and regional transit system located right within the community.
One of the greatest qualities of Norfolk is its friendly communities. With over 120 neighborhoods, each having qualities to stand out from one another, residents enjoy a community spirit and friendly living. Additionally, Norfolk is a sociable area with plenty of opportunities to meet other residents, as the city comes together during more than 130 events each year to commemorate and celebrate - such as the AFR´AM Festival, the Annual Harbor Fest and the Ghent Arts Festival. Children attend the nationally recognized Norfolk City Public School system as well as a selection of private schools where highly qualified teachers ensures that every child will succeed.
Major attractions include: Nauticus Battleship Wisconsin, which features hands-on exhibits, interactive theaters, and a variety of educational programs, world-class shopping, pro sports, sandy beaches, recreational parks, plenty of nightlife, and offer residents of any age group an experience to enjoy. Whether it is cheering on hockey´s Norfolk Admirals, visiting the Chrysler Museum, catching an Old Dominion University game, or taking in a Virginia Symphony performance, a fun time is guaranteed for everyone.
